JUST DUO IT.
Who are the Spatial Forces Duo?
Together, Jessica Lindsey and Christy Banks form the Spatial Forces Duo, a bass/clarinet duo committed to performing music with electronics in non-traditional venues.
We focus on performing compositions where our acoustic sounds converge with digital sounds (recorded from the world around us, then manipulated and processed to create an electronic soundscape) to accompany us in performance. Classically trained musicians name this music “electroacoustic” ... we hope you name it "awesome."
Since 2013, we have performed internationally in China, New Zealand, Europe, and Canada and nationally from Alabama to Alaska.
You'll find recent recordings, concert listings, and a way to contact us -- all on this page.

SPATIAL FORCES DUO
Meet Christy Banks and Jessica Lindsey
Christy Banks and Jessica Lindsey formed the Spatial Forces Duo in 2008, and since that time have toured the U.S. from Alaska to Alabama and internationally in Belgium, Canada, China, Italy, and New Zealand. We aim to stretch the sonic possibilities of the traditional clarinet duo: each performer doubles on clarinet and bass clarinet, we are enveloped by an electronic soundscape, and audiences are often intrigued by the source of the sound.
We commission works by composers of diverse backgrounds that write new works influenced by rock, folk, electronica, the 1980s, and minimalist styles. We are currently collecting, performing, and recording new works for a full-length album. We focus on performing compositions where our acoustic sounds converge with digital sounds which are recorded from the world around us. These sounds are then manipulated and processed to create an electronic soundscape, which surrounds or engulfs our acoustic sounds.
CHRISTY BANKS, Associate Professor of Clarinet and Assistant Chair of the Tell School of Music at Millersville University of Pennsylvania, has appeared as a soloist/recitalist throughout the US as well as in Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Germany, Iceland, Italy, and New Zealand. Passionate about new music, Banks is a member of NakedEye Ensemble and Spatial Forces Duo. Additional affiliations include Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Allegro Orchestra Lancaster, King Street Big Band, and Manor Woodwind Quintet.
JESSICA LINDSEY has established herself as a dynamic performer and pedagogue, pursuing a career that is equally devoted to both spheres. Her reputation as a clarinetist in both chamber and orchestral settings has seen her perform throughout the United States, and as far afield as China and New Zealand. Dr. Lindsey is committed to pushing the boundaries of the clarinet; by commissioning new repertoire, championing music by diverse composers, and showcasing works through conference/festival performances. Her first CD release with pianist Christian Bohnenstengel, “Set No Limits: The Music of Women Composers,” is published by Albany Records (February 2018). A dedicated educator, Dr. Lindsey is currently Assistant Professor of Clarinet at UNC Charlotte, where she prides herself on creating new musical opportunities for her growing studio of clarinet students.
